1. Who can become members? Basically everyone.
There is no skill level needed to become a member. We reserve the right to remove any members who repeatedly violate our rules though.
2. Who can become staff? We are currently open for applying to be a contributor when applying for membership. We would prefer to choose staff from people that are already members so we have an idea of what sort of art they like. We'll look in their favourites folder and assess whether or not they would be a good fit for choosing what art to accept or deny here in this group. At the moment we
do need more staff members, if you wish to be a contributor send us a note. You never know,
you could be the perfect person for the job.
3. The level needed to get your painting accepted: Our gallery contains
high end medium, to very high level paintings and we reserve the right to reject any submission based on our opinion of quality.
Rules for submitting: You can submit
3 paintings per week. If your painting got rejected it still counts, but if you yourself withdraw the painting before it gets voted on it does not count.
You may submit: Digital Paintings. It doesn't matter what software is used to paint it or if the linework was done traditionally as long as the painting itself is purely digital.
Matte Paintings. This does NOT include photomanipulations, a strong painterly feel must be retained and no elements should look like they don't fit to the others. Matte paintings will be judged and voted on with higher quality requirements than any other submission.
Anime, comic, caricature etc. as long as the quality is up to the rule's standards.
Tutorials. Please make sure they are helpful and explanations are written in English.
Nude work, as long as it follows deviantart's rules.
You may NOT submit: 3-D work of any kind.
Photomanipulations or paintings with visible photographic elements.
Textures if they are too obvious.
BUT if the 3-D, photo elements, texture has been OVERPAINTED completely, and nothing sticks out and "looks fake" we will in most cases accept the submission. By overpainted we mean actually painted, not just adjusted with a Photoshop filter. Using textures from cgtextures.com and such are of course completely fine.
Watermarks. We recognize and respect the artists right to mark their art to keep it from being stolen, but if the marks feel overwhelming we will not accept the painting in our galleries. We feel that it in some cases subtracts too much from the experience.
Text over the image (bookcovers, posters etc.). Same as the watermark: Small amounts are okay, as long as the text does not dominate the image.
Simple character sheets or T-Shirt designs, which do not fall into the "painting" category.
Multiple submissions in one image, including close-up shots. We will only make exceptions if the images affiliate with each other or are otherwise strongly bonded (e.g. triptychs).
(Digital) drawings or anything else not fitting the "painting" category.
Additional information If you want to get feedback on your painting, you have to ask in the correspondence message
before we voted on your submission. Requests coming afterwards may be ignored. Always use the correspondence message to ask, not the front page of the group. Otherwise we don't know what submission you refer to and we don't have access to the votes and notes page, and it is hard to answer your question without it.
Remember to submit your painting to the right gallery folder.
We will decline any image submitted to a wrong folder, no matter of quality. Our gallery contains
high end medium, to very high level paintings and we reserve the right to reject any submission based on our opinion of quality. We will judge the submissions on the colours as well as form. If for instance a painting has good pose and great anatomy but poorly done colouring, it will in most cases be rejected. By voting on the submissions we hope to be fair, but of course some people will always feel offended or hurt which is sad but unavoidable.
We hope these rules will be fair and appropriate for everyone.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to note the group or join us in the group dAmn channel:
